Frequently asked questions

What does Dokimion do?

Dokimion is an independent check of a part for additive manufacturing. You send a 3D file and get a score from A to E, the problems marked on the part, three suggested positions and a cost estimate per part, for FDM, SLA, SLS and metal.

Which file formats can I upload?

STL, STEP and 3MF, up to 100 MB.

Is it free?

The first three parts a month per email address get the full report at no charge. After that a report costs 19 € per part, or 10 for 120 €. An engineer review costs 190 € per part.

How long does a check take?

Usually under a minute. Very large meshes with hundreds of thousands of triangles can take a few minutes, especially for metal.

Who can see my files?

Files are kept for 30 days and shared with no one. Reports are kept so you can open them again.

Does AI check my part?

No. The measuring is done by code, and every threshold has a source. AI is used only to help write the short conclusion from those measurements.

Which technologies and materials are supported?

FDM (PLA, PETG, ASA, ABS, PA6-CF), SLA resins, SLS (PA12) and metal laser powder bed fusion (AlSi10Mg, Ti6Al4V, 316L, 17-4PH, IN718, IN625, CuCrZr, CoCr).

What is the Kolesar Score?

A rating from 0 to 100 and from A to E built from three or four equally weighted components. 80 and above means the part prints without changes. See how the score is built.

Do you sell printing or machines?

No. Dokimion is independent and sells neither printing nor equipment, so the report can also say that another technology or machining is the better choice.

Can an engineer review my part?

Yes. The engineer review adds a signed comment and a 30 minute call within 48 hours, for 190 € per part.

Is the result final production documentation?

No. It is an engineering assessment of the geometry. It is not a certification and does not check internal stresses unless stated.

Do you offer licences for universities and service bureaus?

Yes. A licence is 790 € a year for unlimited use by 3 users with API access, 390 € for universities. White label with your logo and domain is 1 500 € a year or 15 %.

What happens if the check cannot finish?

The report says so in plain words, shows no substitute numbers, marks the score incomplete, caps it at 79 and offers to try again. See how to read a report.

How accurate is the cost estimate?

It is a typical service bureau price built from assumptions that are marked in the report. Use it to compare technologies and quantities, not as a quote. See how it is estimated.

Should I upload STL or STEP?

STEP carries exact surfaces and avoids most mesh defects. STL, STEP and 3MF are all accepted, up to 100 MB. See STL file errors and how to fix them.

Which units does it use?

Millimetres by default. You can choose inch when you upload the file.

Can I show the report to a supplier?

Yes, that is what it is for: an assessment for a decision and a conversation with a service bureau, with a source for every threshold. It is not final production documentation.

The first three parts a month are free, with the full report.
